May Review - Timing Is Everything

May was a funny month. I earned a reasonable amount, and ran pretty well for the first half. During the last week and a half however, I underwent some of the most soul crushing variance I've had to withstand this year. Doomswitched to the utter max. 20 BI below AIEV the last 4 sessions alone. Because the run bad is much more fresh in my mind than the run decent, it feels like May was a disappointment.

On the positive side, I purchased my package for the WSOP ME this month, and I'm looking forward to both my first Vegas foray as well as my first major tournament experience. Might as well start with the biggest Poker event in existence, am I right?

Here is how the bottom line breaks down for the month:

$10061.20 winnings
+$5267.86 FPP value rakeback (94069 VPPs)
+$3200 milestone bonus ($4000 - $800 FPP value)
+$414.83 staking profit (thanks Will)
---------------------------------------
$18,943.89 USD total profit. At the current incredibly lame exchange rate, this equates to ~$20,670 CDN. Amazing how the Canadian Dollar has strengthened throughout the last 6 months. At least I'm picking a good time to go to Vegas and buy into the WSOP ME!

Oh yeah, the $18.9k USD total is a new personal best, though due to the exchange rate I have actually earned more CDN$ in a month before, but that's not a fair comparison. So yay me, another new record!

In June, I want to make a conscious effort to push more small edges in position. Stealing more is the biggest thing, along with isolating loose/weak fish that play fit or fold with less than my normal opening range. I used to do these things a lot better than I have lately, and though doing so will require a higher level of focus from me, I'm sure it's nothing an increase in caffeine consumption won't fix.

On that note, I'm a week or so away from hitting the first milestone bonus I didn't reach last year ($4200, sweet) which happens to come at the half way point to SNE. Sort of scary to think I'm so close to half way towards my goal, and with the 100k for playing the WSOP ME, it really isn't seeming like a daunting task anymore. That said, things never go well when you underestimate the effort required to achieve a goal, so I'll try hard not to let up.

Didn't take off due to the other party becoming disinterested. Probably was a good call on his part though, as I'm quite certain his total NL100 profit on the month ended up being less than half of mine. To be fair, he probably would have played more if the bet had happened.
